Jello shots are small servings of alcohol-infused jello. You can make jello shots with almost any type of alcohol, but you should adjust the proportions of alcohol and cold water to ensure that the shot still sets. The higher the proof of the alcohol, the more water that is required for it to set. If you are planning a jello shot party, consider diluting your shots with more cold water and less alcohol. Since the alcohol is contained within the jello, it is absorbed more slowly and even experienced drinkers will often underestimate how much they have had to drink. They will also be less expensive, can be more often enjoyed, and your party will last longer.

Basic steps:

To hold the jello shots, you will need some small plastic cups. The ones used by restaurants to hold condiments are great because they are the perfect size. You will also need some vegetable oil cooking spray. If you spray a little bit of this inside the cups before adding the jello, the shots will not stick to the sides and will come out easily. And do not worry, you will not taste the oil at all.

You can make jello shots with almost any type of alcohol, but you should adjust the proportions of alcohol and cold water to ensure that the shot still sets. The higher the proof of the alcohol, the more water that is required for it to set. Most people use vodka for jello shots, but you can get creative and recreate your favorite drinks in jello form. For example, use lime jello and tequila to make a margarita shot, strawberry jello and rum for a daiquiri shot, or pineapple jello and coconut rum for a pina colada shot.

  1. Make the jello - Empty the contents of the jello packet into a large bowl. Then pour the boiling water over the jello. Stir together the water and the jello for about two minutes until it is completely dissolved. Let it cool down.

  2. Add alcohol - Add the alcohol ingredients to the jello, and stir them in.

  3. Chill - Now, use a ladle to transfer the jello into the plastic cups. Place these in the refrigerator for at least four hours until the jello sets. Keep the jello shots chilled until serving.

Jello Shot Recipes

Don’t afraid to get creative. You don’t have to be a professional bar tender to make kick-ass jello shots.

Margarita Jello Shots

  • 6 ounces Lime Jello (large box)

  • 16 ounces boiling water

  • 6 ounces tequila

  • 2 ounces Triple Sec

  • 1 ounce lime juice

  • 1 ounce cold water

Mix the jello powder with the boiling water until fully dissolved then add the rest of the water and alchohol.

Rum and Coke Jello Shots

  • 6 ounces Cherry Jello

  • 8 ounces boiling Coke

  • 8 ounces cold Coke

  • 8 ounces White Rum

Mix the jello powder with the boiling coke until fully dissolved then add the rest of the coke and the rum. Stirr the mixture some more until the bubbles begin to subside.

Mai-Tai Jello Shots

  • 6 ounces Tropical Jello

  • 16 ounces boiling water

  • 2 ounces Light Rum

  • 4 ounces Dark Rum

  • 2 ounces Pineapple Juice

Irish Whiskey Sour Jello Shots

  • 6 ounces Orange Jello

  • 16 ounces boiling water

  • 12 ounces cold water

  • 4 ounces Irish Whiskey

Common mistakes:

  1. Avoid bad recipe. Taste before serving it to your guests.

  2. Serve the Jello Shots in at least 1 oz cups.

  3. Keep the Jello Shot chilled as longer as you can.

  4. Do not use too much alcohol. It will ruin the flavor and most probably will get the jello liquid too soon.
